The only way to truly comprehend Andalusia is to go and live in Andalucía... And your next best option is to surf this site and its links and then buy your dream home in the countryside...but remember that prices reflect the quality and quantity of land, not necessarily the look of a house.

  • need a hire car? where do you arrive? Malaga, Gibraltar, Jerez, Sevilla or even Faro (Portugal) are all accessible airports (we recommend the drive from Faro in Portugal to Huelva and down to Seville then Cadiz area - no long queues as in Malaga, and beautiful countryside.) - we can suggest hire car companies.

  • keep your passport and credit cards with at all times, but always have some cash (credit cards are not universal.)

  • no need to reserve a hotel... just explore, but plan the trip with our help

  • if necessary buy a cheap mobile for use in Spain only

  • sometimes you will not be able to access areas by car, so be prepared to walk

  • keep a waterproof warm coat and walking boots in the car - sometimes it can downpour and get quite cold at night even if it is very hot and sunny by day

  • always have a bottle of mineral water in the boot/trunk of the car

  • take a map of the area - sounds obvious but is often forgotten

In response to frequent enquiries, here are some comments about the buying process (not intended to supercede legal advice.)

Many ask how to proceed to secure your property.

It is usual to pay a "señal" which can be a small holding deposit and/or leading to a deposit of 10 to 20 per cent of the price upon signature of a contract.

This in turn leads to a time limit for completion before the local notary. Title is perfected by subsequent registration in the Land Registry.

If you are able to go straight to the Notary with your vendor, providing you have the purchase monies immediately available, then there is no need to sign a private contract first. Nevertheless you may wish to seek independent legal advice to protect your interests. Please email us if you want an independent lawyer/cross frontier tax advice.
